Research Statement

Rays, also known as batoidea, are an order of fish that exhibit a peculiar locomotion pattern, thanks to their enlarged pectoral fins, fused with their head, and their flat and disk-like body. They swim by flapping their fins, generating waves all over them and thus achieving propulsion. My task in the Ishiguro-Kano Lab is to analyze their motion patterns, develop a decentralized control scheme and build a physical robot to test my results.
